A variety of corn, Zea mays everta, is more famously known as popcorn. The corn has a hard moisture-sealed hull and a dense starchy filling. This unique shell allows the corn to explode from the kernel and burst to form white, irregularly shaped puffs when heated. Originally discovered by Native Americans, it is now ubiquitous in movie theaters around the world.
